Gabbi McCabe and Nathan Stubler were named the 2016 Girls' and Boys' Bowlers of the Year for the second consecutive year by the NewsTribune for their achievements during the 2015-2016 Illinois High School Association bowling season. The pair of star bowlers are members of the Sunday Night High School League and students at La Salle-Peru High School.
Senior Gabbi McCabe led the girls team with the high series in 16 of 18 matches. She threw a high game of 258, high series of 719 and averaged 200. Gabbi advanced to the IHSA State Tournament and qualified to bowl the second day and finished in 58th place overall. She plans to attend college at the University of Nebraska to major in emergency management leaving an accomplished high school bowling career behind.
Nathan Stubler finished the high school bowling season with an impressive 231.3 average as a junior. On his first trip to the IHSA State Tournament, he placed 4th overall after leading the tournament after the first round. Enroute to the State Tournament, Nathan won the La Salle Peru Regional, Rockford East Sectional and Illinois Big 12 Conference Tournaments. With the triumphs achieved this year he has his sight set on a first place finish at the State Tournament his senior year.
